Weed Harvesting Update 7/29/2025

July 29

Due to a mechanical problem, the weed harvester is currently down, as of 7/26/2025. The crew is working to get things fixed ASAP as of this morning 7/29/2025. The initial indication is that the computer controlling the engine is not communicating with the engine. Aquarius has been called who manufactured the harvester to take the next steps. In the meantime, weeds will be a nuisance until the harvester is operational again.

The weed growth has increased from the last few years, as noted by the amount of loads we are taking out of the lake. This could be due to many factors, including the natural cycle of our lake, the increased rainfall this year with run off from lawns and the increase in temperatures recently. Due to the shallow nature of our lake, any increase in boat traffic over areas that are populated by weeds result floating weeds and after the harvester has been out, you will see an increase in floating cut weeds as well.

Please keep in mind that we have designated lanes to cut native weeds based on our permit from the DNR. And as we talked about during the annual meeting, the native weed population in our lake is most likely what is keeping the invasive species from getting a foothold in Mid Lake.

Harvester operators were out last night and noted that the for the most part the lanes were clear and the lake was as well. Floating cut weeds were still seen along the shores.

Thank you all for your patience as we work to get the harvester operational again.
